Peer Support Group

Our Peer Support Group, supported by CFG Law, provides enriching opportunities for people with a brain injury to come together and support one another.

We are delighted to announce a new partnership with CFG Law, which sees the latter supporting our Peer Support Group- providing enriching opportunities for people with an acquired brain injury to come together and support one another.

Amanda Barmby, Occupational Therapist and Therapy Service Manager commented “As a charity, we constantly assess the needs of our clients, and recognise when more provisions need to be made or changed. When an individual has a brain injury it can be difficult to navigate the next steps in life, and many can feel very isolated. Our peer support groups are a safe, non-judgemental space where people can share their experiences and feel validated by other people who understand the challenges they may be facing. They encourage a community of people who understand and help each other and allow friendships to be forged beyond Headway. This is so important for the recovery and rehabilitation of those affected by brain injury”.

We understand some of the frustrations people face in the local community when living with the effects of brain injury and that being with others who understand the situation is crucial to personal development. The peer support groups are led by a member of our Occupational Therapist team and allow those who attend to build self-confidence through positivity and valued contribution.

Amanda Barmby added “We try to make our groups as accessible as possible, which is why we have the options of both in-person and online groups and is why the groups are FREE! This wouldn’t be possible without the support of CFG Law, and for that, we are grateful."

Siobhan Thacker, Partner at CFG Law commented, “We’re delighted to be able to partner with Headway Norfolk & Waveney and work together on their Peer Support Group project going forward. These groups allow those with a brain injury & their family to access information, receive specialist advice and build support networks alongside others who have had similar experiences. All of which fits closely with our purpose at CFG Law: to help all of those affected by injury – together.”

Partnerships Manager at CFG Law, Steve Maloret added “Headway Norfolk & Waveney’s Peer Support groups are a vital service for people with a brain injury across the county that we’re proud to support. We know from the clients we help; how important it is to feel part of a community that understand their needs and can provide advice and experience.”
